  • Re: Fabric for discharging

This is a small add on to my original post. I was having some trouble getting the photo included and accidentally posted before I was quite ready. Anyway, my question is: does anyone have experience with discharging and particularly with finding fabrics that discharge effectively to particular colors?

  • Fabric for discharging

I am experimenting with discharging fabric and am having trouble figuring out what color I am going to get. I am trying to get a black fabric (close to a solid black) that will discharge to green. I did this once before but of course can't find the fabric again. I have tried several blacks -- I can get purple and gold discharged areas, but haven't

  • Free Lap Quilt Patterns Now Available

Hi, wanted to let those interested know that I have just posted (on my blog) a link to 14 free patterns that I developed by use in my guild's charity quilt work. They are all simple patterns, lap quilt size. I had previously published them as a small book that many guild members used. Since I now have a few patterns for sale, I decided to make these

  • Re: Threading sewing machine needle

My original needle threader on my Bernina broke after 10 years and I was really lost for a while until I got a new one. I would suggest a few simple solutions you can try. First, remove the presser foot if you can and place white paper underneath the needle so you can see what you are doing. Second, switch to a needle with a larger eye. A topstitch

  • Re: Quilts to the Rescue

I was disappointed when I clicked on the link and did not find any information about her charity, just an opportunity to start shopping/donating, which I am not willing to do without more information. Where did you get more info? As far as giving away fabrics for a good cause -- nearly every quilt guild does charity quilts that go to good local charities

  • Re: Fireplace Mantle Runner

Thanks so much for your comments. Yes, I did know mine was the only mantle runner on the site. I hope that will translate into a few sales to justify the effort of writing up the pattern. Designing and making the pieces was fun; preparing the drawings and instructions is more like work! Shirley

  • Fireplace Mantle Runner

I recently designed and made a fireplace mantle runner that I really like. I am going to post a photo here if I can figure out how to do it: Hey, the upload worked! Anyway, isn't it cool? I also made a matching tablerunner and placemat: I even made a pattern of these and put it up on Patternspot.com for sale last week. It is called "Points

  • Re: Bleeding fabrics

Thanks, Carol. Excellent suggestion. I went to the site and printed out the instructions. I have decided that, for future information I am going to run some tests using these products and see what I can determine about their use -- unless I find a web site where someone else has already done it. I will report back once I know something.

  • Re: Bleeding fabrics

Thanks to everyone for offering your suggestions. Obviously the best thing is to determine whether fabric will bleed ahead of time. But if you didn't - or thought your prewashing was good enough and it wasn't - my question was about what to do next. Especially if you are not willing to take out the quilting, take the quilt apart and replace

  • Re: Can you tell me what to do to keep my thread from breaking when I FMQ on my sewing machine (not longarm)

Debbie, I just ran across a brief discussion of thread breakage (cotton vs polyester) at: http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/blog.php/blog_id/5627 This is information from Superior Threads, and reminded me that they have a lot of terrific information on their web site about threads, needles, etc. You might find some of it useful.
