I'm considering using the "quilt as you go" method for assembling PoD. But I've never done the technique before. I've looked at YouTube and Craftsy and it looks like I'd assemble a row of blocks, add the sash piece that is the bookshelf, and quilt it (leaving the sashing unquilted so it can be folded back fully). Then two adjacent

Hi Debby, I'm SO glad you mentioned your Doctor Who quilt. I hadn't stumbled on it and I'm really tempted to jump in as a diversion from Harry Potter. The block designs are gorgeous. Please share some pictures of your blocks! Jen

Thanks Ladies! Robin - if you saw the back of the dragon you'd see I have alot to learn yet. It's quite the stackup of seams :) But I'm happy to report that the title for the book he's sitting on stitched out well. I was pretty freaked out as I pushed the "go" button on the machine. Jen

Hi Robin, No, I haven't finished yet. I'm slogging through machine embroidering the titles and, since it's my first attempt at it, I've had to do my share of replacing books that didn't stitch out well. I think there are about seven blocks to go so I'll be at it awhile. Any advice on how to quilt this? I'm thinking about

Hi Debra, A great place to start might be Ula Lenz's site. She has a bunch of free patterns under Patterns/Free/New York Beauty. Donna Duquette patterns are out there if you Google, too. Enjoy! Jen

Well, today I learned it takes a long time to pick three machine embroidered letters out of a finished book block and that I don't want to do that again. lol I guess I'm pushing the limit of just how small you can make letters before the thread gets too stacked up and they start to go all lumpy. I got a few suggestions from the sewing store

I just had to have a dragon so the Weasley bag had to go. Took a looong time to figure out as it was my first venture into starting from scratch. It's not a traditional PP pattern as I had to do some fancy seams that were more pivots, not straight ones. And I'd tweak some color choices to get better shading on the body and legs if I ever have

I decided to replace the monster book block with the sorcerer's stone, flying key and the mokeskin pouch. The key wasn't too bad to do but so many little pieces. Patience hat required. The monster book will reappear in the stack under the Hogwarts crest. The spine will have the book title and be the only book with a belt buckle to keep it closed

Jan, Your plan sounds familiar! I was inspired by everyone who did the PoD week to week and decided to make one for each of my boys on the sly for Christmas. I almost have blocks pieced for one. It's so hard to not be able to work on it on weekends when they're underfoot and summer will be a slow go too. I've been tempted plenty of times

Whoo hoo! I'm closing in on having the blocks pieced and having to start tackling the book titles. I went off plan and slowly worked my way through doing a Hungarian horntail off a web sketch. The last block will be a combo of items from the first book. That part of the story just seemed to be missing in the quilt. I've been browsing for a nice
