• Re: New EQ user....where do I start

I did the same thing Judy did. I watched all the videos and I did all the lessons. I also printed them out and put them in a binder. When you finish the lessons you can do everything that is basic, including print with your own printer.
Thanks for the info Starling. I'm in the class on quilting large quilts on a small machine so I guess I'll pass on this one for now. I also don't pay full price for any of these classes. I'm enrolled in a few of them and have not made a single project from any of them so I'm trying to be more careful
Barbara et al, what's different in the craftsy class from what's free onLeah's site? I did not make the quilt she's working on.
That is a good question. It is possible that you could find most of what is there on her site if you looked hard enough. But it wouldn't be organized the way this is
I love Ann Petersen's class. That is what I am practicing the feathers for. Since I am such a timid FMQ the simple sequence Ann uses to build up to a sampler works for me. I haven't tried any echo stitching at all, and the only fill stitch I know is the stipple. This was my first feathers, and the travel

Denise, beautiful feathers. Isn't is wonderful to be able to do these? I'm new at this too, but one thing I learned from Ann Petersen's quilting class on Craftsy, was to echo around the feathers and then do a fill stitch around them. Boy does that make even beginner feathers look AMAZING. You might want to try it just to see.

Barbara, the one thing I do very badly with free motion is follow a line. How does one improve in that area?

It was an accident. I selected the two blocks and put them into the quilt. Then I started playing with the rotate block tool. Try this

Judy, what I love about your quilt is the secondary patterns. That is the kind of thing I'd like to learn how to do. I know understand how some quilt effects are managed that just boggled my mind before I started playing with EQ. Things like controlling gradients across a quilt, or the two block and three block quilts that end up being a lot more
snip Issues with EQ7. Obviously I'm missing something here. In the print menu, I said the finished size should be 7.25". The finished size turned out 7.0". I used a scant 1/4" seam. I thought the block would turn out 7.50" when sewn together. When sewn to the rest of the quilt, it would be 7.25"

What you are both suggesting will take the class to the next level and I'd love to be a part of it. Another suggestion might be that we start with blocks. And then once we have a few of them, turn them into two and three block quilts. Not necessarily to make them, but to practice designing as a group. Before I start I need to actually finish the
