  • Re: ugly quilt help!

Guess I have no taste, I like the pattern on the fabric. kinda southwestern. what if you matched the brown/beige in the center and used that color as large triangles on the corners. That would bring out that color. your quilt looks good.

  • Re: Was wondering about sewing machines at Walmart/Sears?

I bought my original machine(Brother) 15-16 yrs ago from Walmart. I had to get curtains made for the new house and refused to purchase more after I purchased them for the living room. WOW! I have since gone to a dealer and purchased another Brother from a stand alone dealer. From looking around there shop it seems they have most brands. I liked my Brother

Gini, what needles do you recommend? I have purchased John James and others and read that english manufactured needles are best. I do some English paper piecing along with the embroidery and have so many bent needles people laugh at my pin cushions. do you or anyone know if you can polish them back up to smoothness if they start wearing? I have used Sulky 12wt, Aurifil 12 wt, DMC Perle cotton 8 and from Threadart.com they had a Perle cotton 8- they had their entire collection on sale for half price. I bought it all the colors, it is heavy on the greens and purples, Really like it. It stands our more on the 'bluework' i decided i wanted in technicolor than the 12 wt. Seems tighter

Great job. Great colors. Was it a kit or did you select the fabrics? Especially like the school bus. So much work- was it needleturn or fused? Either way something to be proud of.

Gutermann is supposed to be a good brand, I have only used YLI brand silk thread, found it online also from a quilt shop in new york. It is the brand the applique instructor used in the class i took. She also made sure we used the Thread Heaven stuff to make the thread 'more stable.' let us know if you like the guterman.

Beautiful. especially the purple/blues on the brown background. Did the pattern call for 4 different background sq in each block or was that a design choice. Cannot wait to see the finished piece. Question for the group:i am working the flower basket by edyta Sitar with the pre-fused backing on the applique pieces but was attempting to hand applique
