Placemats
When I audition my ideas for what I will do in the quilting phase of my project, I make a smallI placemat or liner for a meal tray with my project fabrics and try new techniques. It is small and I'm able to get an idea of how I want the large project to turn out. and am not wasting my time as I do it.

Threading Needle
When I don't have my "close up" glasses handy and need to thread my machine needle, I use a small envelope which I keep handy , place a corner of it behind the needle and the hole is very easy to see. Anything small and white will work.
