Somehow, my measurements have gotten wonky on my quilt top and I am out of square. I guess it's because I cut my own templates, but does anyone experience 'growth' when they start piecing? It's probably just my rotten cutting and measuring technique. Any kind of quilting ruler that I can use that will help me? I am using my husband's

Hi Pat. I hope you get some rest and that the fur baby gets better. Sorry it took me so long to get back on the forum, today has been a bit hectic. You totally understood what I want to do with my backing. I have fabric that isn't wide enough, so I plan to machine seam two pieces together to get an adequately sized backing. Thanks for all of your

Thanks Pat. Um, I think I can get over using the machine to sew these backing pieces together. I am just concerned about how to square it. Any tuts on that? Thanks, Cat

How do you do that for the backing? That's a lot of paper! I hope I'm misunderstanding.

Do you use a running stitch when you piece you quilt backing? Does anyone here wast time using the PP method? I would think not so much because after you seam. You double check and make sure the backing is square then pin baste to the batting and quilt top right? Thanks, Cat

  • Quilt backing

I looked for a search function so I wouldn't have to ask this if it had already been answered, but I couldn't find such a thing. i picked up some fantastic fabric for my quilt today. I'm not finished with the top yet, but it will only take me a few more weeks to finish so I thought I would ask now. Did you hand piece your backing and if

Thanks to all you ladies, Lola, Barbara, Dara Beth, Kris, and Gail. I appreciate the advice and tips. It's given me something to think about and consider. I'm thinking about doing the Baptist Fan quilting pattern since with all the straight lines I felt like it would make this quilt a smudge more dynamic. What do you think?

Thanks Barbara, Lola, Ninette, and Carey. Yep, I'm having fun doing this quilt despite the anxiety over the yet-to-come quilting part. Oh well, I figure I can go as slow as I need to go until it's finished and my four year-old won't care much if it's perfect. Sorry if this is too large. Please let me know the max size and I will try

Thanks Kris. Yep, I've pretty much just plunged in and decided that it is OK to let my first quilt be a learning experience and that it won't be perfect, but as long as I improve, it will all be worth it. Cat
