  • Re: Questions about applique for Fons and Porter

Thanks to you both for the advice. I will do a practice run on scraps to try some different threads for the machine embroidery. As for the stems. I made a LOT thinner piece of bias fabric and it looks a lot better. I still folded it in thirds but it doesn't seem so thick. The fabric I am using is fairly thin anyway. Hope to work more today and hope

  • Questions about applique for Fons and Porter

I started on the "Vase of Flowers" project in the latest F and P issue of Love of Quilting. I have had a couple of small issues so far. It talks about doing needle turning but I really can't do that anymore. So I am just using Heat and Bond to attach the flowers and leaves and plan to maybe do some machine applique over the edges. My machine

  • Re: BUILDING A STASH

I love fabric!!!!! I need fabric. I add as I find new. I occasionally purge a bit, donating to my local church sewing group. But as soon as I "purge" I seem to find the need for more I would hate to want to start a project and not be able to get to the fabric store... so I would say I am pretty well prepared for that occasion!

  • Re: New Title: I am going to machine applique for awhile!

No, it is paper pieced. It is the easiest, albeit slowest way to get really straight lines. My machine applique project won't show up for a week or two. I have to finish this one first. It will have nine little squares.

Now I can get back to my machine and the little paper pieced item I am working on. Here is a picture of the first square When these 9 squares are done I will get back to the applique

  • Re: I give up, I am going to machine applique.

Thanks for that great tip Helen. For this quilt I was just pressing down the edged because there were straight lines. But when I get to other elements of the quilt, like the birds and flowers I will have to use that technique to make it work for me! Not moving very fast here cause other things keep popping up. But with these notes to read every day

Thanks Lillie, I am glad I made the decision. I have ordered some special gloves that are supposed to make life easier. A lady at my LQS told me about them. I don't knit so that wont help (LOL) I am currently just sewing some a little paper pieced wall hanging. When the 12 squares are done I will get back to the applique. I am sitting here at my

  • Re: Organizing pattern and magazines

At the moment I don't have that many but I have some holders that I made from boxes that hold my different kinds of magazines. Each box has different types of magazine. I found this link on line to show one way to make them for free. You can buy them from Staples but WHY??? http://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-Free-Magazine-Files/

  • Re: Did You Work on a Quilt Today? #5

I am prepping my machine for some machine applique. And after that I hope to work a bit on a paper pieced wall hanging. Mostly a bit of this and a bit of that. Lately that seems to be the way I work.
