  • Re: Has anyone used the new bias tape maker?

I got one (on sale of course) for the fussy cut pieces like SunBonnet Sue, Double Wedding Ring and Drunkard's Path. I think one of the strip blades came with it, but I agree it doesn't seem cost effective unless you do a great many of the same quilt pattern. sometimes it's just about trying the new toys.

  • Re: storing fabric in boxes

Fabric Mart and Fashion Fabrics are two. I know Fashion Fabrics has been around for a long time, but the other is new to me and has designer fabrics at incredible discounts for apparel sewing. There are so many others online that I've found and am happy with - mostly because we only have one chain store providing fabric in our small town, and the

Also you can use acid free tissue to layer the fabric or a piece of an old sheet as lining before putting in the boxes. I like to use tissue because of the possibility of color crocking - haven't had that problem in a long time but you never know. I've been getting some incredible fashion fabrics at discount from one online company and just

  • Re: Digitizing

A lot of digitizing programs now produce designs that are compatible with almost all machines. I have a Brother that uses .pes and I've noticed that it's included with every design set that I've ever been interested in.

  • Re: Was wondering about sewing machines at Walmart/Sears?

I recently purchased a Brother Emb. machine from a reseller on Amazon.com. The same machine was avaiable from WalMart but had to be ordered - they didn't stock it. So the machine at WalMart wasa good one, but I'm happy with Amazon.. Even though it was a 'net order, I knew there would be no problems and it arrived in 2 days. shocker for me

  • Re: Making a cover for my sewing machine

I recently started cutting straps off totes with interesting designs; one from a hardware store in Kuwait and another from a ski shop - they fit well but they're loose and lightweight without bits to snag thread. But I cut up a couple perfectly good totes first that weren't the right size - either too small or too tall - before I found the right

  • Re: Home Quilting Machines

I stumbled on a Husqvarna Sapphire which has extra wide space to the right of the needle for quilts. However, I don't care for the way the presser foot automatically raises when you stop in the "needle down" position. This should be a plus, but I find it annoying.

  • Re: Massachusetts quilter?

Ditto what they said, plus, my recommendation is to request a wool, flannel or cotton batting rather than polyester. The poly looks cute and fluffy when new, but the others will become an heirloom treasure. You may not understand how shops can sell these items so cheaply compared to commissioned work. Plus the ones at shops lose their appeal when held
