• Re: Did You Work on a Quilt Today? #9

Thea--I have followed your instructions, after you posted them previously at some point, for spray basting and pressing the back and front down. I do not clip the fabric down to start with and find with the pressing it still comes out great.. There always is a bit of slight ripple look on the back after the front is pressed in place but it is no longer

  • Re: Quilt Shop

Congratulations, Melissa. Much as writing memories sounds like a wonderful Idea I hope you are so busy and consequently so tired that all you will be looking for is a few minutes to sit down to gather your wits during the day. Then you will go home and nothing has ever been as wonderful as your bed. Get up in the morning and repeat!!

  • Re: Keeping your Quilt Block in the Order you want them.

I also always have the label at the top left hand corner of the block. After piecing the blocks into rows the label is a good help for pressing. Even # block seams get pressed to the right. Odd #' rows get pressed to the left unless seam lines in the block indicate a different pressing pattern.

Check this out; http://trilliumdesign.blogspot.ca/2012/10/kaleidoscope-mariners-block.html Eliminate the blue and green parts. Her blades are all split into print and solid. Cut them as one unit.. Might give you an idea of how you want to proceed on your own.
Sounds like a plan, DD, thanks!
I generally cut my Dresden segments exactly how Debby-Do describes, lengthening or shortening the original template that way without having to cut a new one. Ihave a number of different templates, based on number of segments in a full circle but no ruler.

I have no idea if that star actually has a name. It falls under the greater category of Mariner's Compass. It is the kind of pattern I would hand piece whereas others would prefer paper piecing. I would tackle drawing it for myself with a full size grid and concentrate on one quarter at a time. By the way I love it and may just have some fun playing

  • Re: Zedo ads

I'm still only on desk top computer but have no problems whatsoever with pop up ads. Have no idea what my settings are. I would be very annoyed if I were getting them.

Marie--thanks. The young man is my one and only grandchild. He is now 15. He was somewhere from 6 to 8 at the time. Just remembered. He couldn't use the quilt for sleeping because "it was too noisy." I had used the craft movable eyes on the fish.
