  • Re: Cutting straight lines

There is a class on Crafty on cutting. I am an experienced quilter but decided to take the class to see if I am missing anything. I did learn quite a bit. I thought it was a great class. If you get it on sale the price is worth it. She does things differently than I have ever been taught. Good luck getting everything working. Alison

Congrats on finishing your first quilt. I am sure this will be the first of many as the quilting bug is very addicting. You can use whatever thread you used to piece for your stitch in a ditch. I use 40-50 wt depending on what color I need. As for tying I would use embroidery thread. The kind for hand embroidery, not the kind for machine embroidery

Don't know if you are still looking but I have the Block Rockit. The reason I went with this is because of the price. I got a whole system for about $5,000. The BR has all the bells and whistles that I liked that the Bailey didn't. I love my machine. Have had a bit of trouble but so far it has been user error not machine. This machine is smooth

Just an update on my Block Rockit. Still love it and am glad I bought it. Grace has now selling the exact same machine with a different name. It costs more than the Rockit and that is the only difference I see. We go to Grace Company with our problems and they fix any problems same as for their machine. If anyone is going to buy this check out both

  • Re: half square triangles

Thanks guys. I did not know this method so this helps big time. I think most of my quilts have HST in them. The math for this is (unfinished size + 1/2") X 2. Can't wait to try this.

  • half square triangles

I like the way to make half square triangles by cutting out a square, sewing 1/4" on all four sides and then cutting diagonally both ways. I just don't know how big to cut the squares to get the size you need. If I needed 3 1/2 " half square triangles what size would I need to make the original square and so on. Hopefully someone knows

I have both the top and bottom. It saves a lot of time and trouble. For the top I start where the chart says it is suppose to be then move it up or down until it is perfect for that thread. I write down the number so I have it for future reference. Someone said that the batting and material can possibly throw it off. It was worth the money as far as

Go to Yahoo group "blockrockit". You will see many of us had tension problems until we got it all figured out. Also, Call Lynn at Kathy Quilts. He will always walk you through any problem. On youtube there is a video on long arm tension done by Jamie Whallen. Last name may be spelled wrong but I am sure you can find it. It takes a bit to get

I have had my Block Rockit for a few months now and love it. I really wanted a 17" but it was just not in the budget. I have a good 10" of workable space with this and so far this has worked fine. This has a lot of bells and whistles for the money. I guess it comes down to being willing to cut a few inches off of workable space or spend big

According to Lynn of Kathy Quilts there is no back order on the machines themselves. We are waiting on the back handles and ruler base. Both should be out this month but when you are dealing with a new product it may take longer. We are being taught patience. Still love my machine.
