dslooney, I also looked at several machines before settling on the Handiquilter. I was looking for something that was easy to thread, no or little maintenance, a store (close) that could help with any issues, and one where the machine was smooth to sew with. I had tried a few of the more expensive machines and none fit the things I was looking for.

Agnes, That is the one! I didn't see it on here, it was a pattern that we saw at the Smokey Mountain retreat last summer at one of the quilt shops. They were giving it away as a free pattern for baby quilts. It was not for a long arm machine, I just did it there as I thought that would be easier. Then on each of the strips (as they were all about

Thea, Mine has the velco also, the other end of the leader has a hem that is open on one end. That's the end the plastic pole part goes into. It is very small, maybe 3/8 inch size pole, so it seems to be for all leaders. That is my thoughts, not sure as I don't have the instructions with me, I will look when we get home this weekend.

Nancee, I am also interested in starting a business. I have a long arm now for 3 years, getting pretty good at the quilting on it. So far, all has been free motion. I want to learn pantographs for people that would want more structure on their quilt. Not sure where to offer my business as of yet. All my quilts have been gifts so far. Would also be interested

  • Re: What's your best quiting tip?

Rachel, The most useful tip I have, is to have a camera ready! I use my phone camera and organize my pics in an album marked quiting ideas. Whenever I see a quilt I like, colors I like or quilting that I might think about for the long arm, I take a quick picture. As I load a quilt on the long arm, I take a few minutes to look thru my album and make

  • Re: Scrappy Quilt

Adele, What a beautiful quilt! I love the colors as well as the quilting you have done on the borders. Do you use a pattern for that or is that all free hand? I can do the free hand pretty well on my long arm, but that looks really hard on the domestic. Well done.

Danielle, press and seal is a Glad wrap product, like Saran Wrap but it sticks to everything! We use it for patients goin home with a dressing that can't get wet in the shower. They wrap it with Press and Seal and then get in the shower. Works great!
