  • Re: Trouble Keeping Narrow Strips from Smiling!

Did you cut 1.5 inch strips? One inch cut strips sewn together with 1/4 inch seams will end up at 1/2 inch. I.5 inch strips sewn together with 1/4 inch seams will give you a 1 inch finished strip. Just checking -- I have made this mistake myself.

  • Re: Never quilted before

Hi Vaness, and welcome! Quick start to quilting: 1. Go to a fabric store or quilt shop and buy a beginner's quilt book -- there are many good ones. You want a book that starts with all the basics. 2. The book you choose should include a chapter on quilting supplies; buy the basics, don't go crazy with getting all the gadgets at this point. If

  • Re: the songs we sang or were sung to us as children

My favorite -- Little Duckie Duddle went wading in a puddle Went wading in a puddle, quite small. Says he, "It doesn't matter How much I splash and splatter, I'm only a duckie, after all. Quack, quack!" I taught this song to my girls when they were little and they have taught it to their children -- we allhave a great time singing

I go to the QCA website to read the postings. I used to get them in my email -- and, as you said, it was just too much -- I love coming here and reading everyone's post -- and i am always looking for techniques and tips -- also love "Show and Tell" but II do wish we had a "like" button -- so we could indicate that we have seen

  • Re: Hi everyone

Dear Ginny -- I don't know you, but your message touched my heart. I know what it is to want to be there for your daughter -- but finances and reason say -- it just may not be possible. By now you have talked to your daughter and I hope she understands -- you have to let your surgery heal -- and you want to be able to go to her when you can actually

  • Re: What Are You Up to Today? #6

Kelli -- What a little love!!! You must be so proud! I just got a new granddaughter in July -- Rachel Elizabeth -- I was so lucky to be able to be there with my daughter and her husband for the birth -- and she was born in the same hospital I was born in -- so exciting!!! We both have a new reason to make dozens of quilts in the coming years -- don't

  • Birthday quilt made for my husband

I made this quilt for my husband's birthday. I chose these fabrics because his hobby is woodworking. I loved the wood grain and the hammer and nails theme. This is the first time I have tried free motion quilting -- and this is the most complex pattern I have done so far. This is the first time I have posted a picture of one of my quilts. Have only

  • Re: teen boy quilts

I did a simple friendship star block pattern for my teen-aged nephew - used a navy blue, yellow, green and purple fish print star on a background of tan and gray-ish purple with sashing and double borders of navy and tan -- and a brown binding --light/medium blue backing. He loved it.
