A friend wanted her new baby room theme to be pink lady bugs and brown. So this is what I did: the center is a pre-made butterfly looped needle-point quilt block with a brown border, but I added the embroidered lady bugs that color coordinated with the backing and border fabric: pink ladybug print on flannel. A friend wanted a quilt for her beach theme house....I used a bargello pattern for creating the waves, added applique starfish, shells and sand-dollars on the 'beach', and attached fabric 'yo-yo's' for the foam bubbles on the beach.
