Hi Nancy - I didn't make it out of the downtown St. Paul area and all the quilts shops seemed to be in the suburbs. Thought we lived in a big city for many years, our ability to put up with crazy city drivers has decreased since moving to Iowa! We parked the car at the hotel and walked to the convention a few blocks away. The craft area for the

Bella - though I lived in Colorado for several years, I never made a visit to the capital building. It is beautiful in the pictures. I've just seen the dome in the distance but see now that I missed out on a US treasure. How wonderful that the state has taken on this quilt exhibit. I'm glad it is running until late August as that might give

Hi Christine - I live in Clinton, IA. I'll have to check out your shop in West Branch. I think that is about 50 - 60 miles from me. We had a very nice shop in Clinton but it recently closed. So did one of the ones I liked in Bettendorf. There is still a nice one in Fulton, IL. Maybe it is good that I have to drive further to buy more fabric as my

Hi - I'm going with to this conference with my husband this weekend. I'm wondering if any of the other QCofA members might be attending with a spouse? They are supposed to have a room where spouses can work on craft projects and have sewing machines set up. I've drug my husband to lots of quilt shops and shows so this time we are going to

Hi Jill! I lived in the Houston, TX area for many years and drove through Huntsville many times. I took my scuba diver certification test at a lake outside of Huntsville. There were a couple of nice quilt shops in The Woodlands when I lived in the area. Have you ever gone to the International Quilt Festival in Houston? I went for 10 years and had a

This was a free pattern I found after 9/11. I used US Navy themed fabric in the star. My father was in the US Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. He was very disturbed by the 9/11 attack on our country. My parents wanted a flag for their front door and my Mom asked if I could make some kind of a patriotic banner. I was happy to send this to

I made this quilt for a Juvenile Diabetes fund raiser sponsored by our local Hy-Vee. It was from a pattern in "Love of Quilting" and I ordered the kit through Fons and Porter. I machine quilted it, doing free motion to outline the caterpillar. I mainly like to piece the tops and still don't enjoy the finishing part of quilt projects.

I made this little wall hanging for our living room. We had a sailboat when we lived in Texas and we miss sailing. Our home is decorated in a nautical style and I collect sailboat patterns to add to the wall art. Some of the fabric is patriotic and some was 5 X 5 pre-cut squares in a nautical theme.

Nancy - thank you for letting me know about this. My husband and I are going on a trip back to Kansas shortly after the date of the retreat. I'm saving $$$ to visit quilt shops around Kansas City and dinners with friends from home. The quilt shop across the river from us, in Fulton, IL is trying to get into the retreat business. It is a beautiful

Hi Margo - I like the picture you used for your profile! Before we moved to Iowa and had a basement, my (3) cats usually ended up on my quilt projects. I always tried to brush off all the cat hair before giving a quilt to anyone but not sure I was always successful. I see that you live in Madison, WI. We really like Madison and have gone there a couple
