Marie, thanks for your kind words. It is very encouraging to know that the stitches do not have to be perfect. If one of my stitches gets a little too long, I do draw the needle out so that it doesn't look bad. I want to have fun running the needle and thread around the pattern. I do have a new question on this topic. Is it ok to go from one side

Agnes, your quilt is beautiful! Congratulations on winning an award! That is an awesome pattern and it looks very pretty with those fabrics you used.

Hello hand quilters! I am excited because I just made the first quilting stitches on a lap size quilt. Not all my stitches are perfect, but that is ok with me. I still like the way they look! I imagine I will get better stitches as I progress. I used a layer cake American Banner Rose as well as some fabrics from my stash. I am using glace cotton thread

Jenia, what a coincidence! I just began hand quilting my first lap size quilt today. I like doing special things on a Sunday. Well when I read your post I went and counted and measured. If you count both the top and bottom stitches, I am getting 9, 10, and 12 stitches per inch. Not too uniform yet, but I am sure I will improve as I go along. I am using

Good job Sara! My first quilts were tied quilts. The first machine quilted items was a bag and a table topper, so you did really good on your daughters quilt. I have found that all the steps to making a quilt get easier as one progresses. It will be fun to see your next project :-)

I am really interested in buying a new sewing chair. I would appreciate any recommendations that you all have tried or heard of that are good for support of lower back and comfort. Have you all seen or tested any at the quilt shows?

Thanks for everyone's directions. This is very helpful information, and I am glad that I asked before beginning :-) It will take a while to complete, but sometimes I enjoy working on a slower project on the side. I like the feel, the look, and the process of the hand quilting.

Jen, so working from the center out means the whole center block, then it's surrounding blocks and then outward from there? So there is no ditch quilting the long seams first?

After the quilt sandwich is basted, I am familiar with the steps for machine quilting. But is it the same for hand quilting? Are the vertical seams done first and then the cross seams? Are the blocks done next, and last the borders? I have a lap size top that I have pieced and want to quilt this one by hand. Thanks for any helpful advice :-)

Karla your quilt looks really delicious in those colors! Sukochi I like the dog related fabrics you are using; that should make a really fun quilt :-)
