My quilt is batik fabric, with a cream dots and swirls background fabric

This one is my mom's version, purple with bolder squares. Her background is lavender, with white vines and heart flowers. :)

I went with a moda swirl and dot cream fabric for the background, and batik fabrics for the color squares.

here is mom's version of the pattern, she chose a purple, with little vine and purple heart flowers as the background fabric, and bolder squares, lots of which have a metallic feel to them.

Here are our two quilts, done with step 2, and set aside until Friday :)

I love everyone's pictures! It's so great to see all the pattern ideas, and all the fabrics. They're all so different, and all so pretty. Very fun! this is the first mystery quilt I've done in "real time" as the steps come out, and its been really fun to watch and interact with everyone :)

I decided after I saw the new step come out that I didn't like my background after all, it was just a plain white. Sooo, I went to the LQS and bought another one, a marbled cream, with cream swirls printed on it. But of course I had to check out the sale/close out section, and 8 more fabrics, and 25+ yards later, I finally got out of there. I went

The best explanation for this step that I have seen is in the first Mystery Quilt - Sweet Dreams. . Debbie Caffrey has wonderful directions for this technique - I think you can find those directions if you look through this site.
