  • Re: getting started

I am a tall lady with back problems, so I had to have my table specially made. I went to the unfinished furniture store locally and asked if they had a carpenter who did special orders. My table was made 40in tall and the top was cut 36x36 to hold that size mat. I found the cost of $250.00 to be a good investment. The table fits into the bedroom I use

First of all, are you going to use the clothes as is or just the material they are made out of? There are patterns on the market for "baby clothes" for boys or girls that you could use the material for. Cathy, What lovely, relaxing colors you have chosen. I was reminded of the night sky when I first saw your quilt. What made you choose those colors? What do you think of when you look at your quilt? Who was the quilt made for or what occasion? Any of those answers could give you and idea for a name for your lovely quilt. Hope this helps:)

  • Re: quilting motifs

I have sewn quilts for each of my grandchildren and used cookie cutters to make up my own quilting motif. This seems to work well with childrens quilts, just trace around the cookie cutter and connect the images with lines.

  • Re: Naming Quilts

I did a watercolor Irish Chain Quilt that I used 9 different fabrics. I called the quilt " Find the Kitties" because one of the fabrics had cats hiding throughout a garden. My family got a laugh out of the name. My husband thought I should reference how long it took me to complete the quilt:) His suggestion," The Forever Quilt".

  • Re: And yet another newbie

Hi Susan, Nice to have you in the group. I have found that where ever you go, if you go to a quilt shop or quilt group, you will be among friends. It has been a wonderful passion for me. So far my intake(stash) exceeds my output:) But on the bright side, I am making LOTS of friendsLOL.
