  • Fall Wanes and Winter Begins

Clearly winter is on its way to us here in Yukon. It is scheduled to be very, very cold by the end of next week and as always, that encourages me to stay holed up in the sewing room and create. I have been busy, that's for sure. The quilts for my twin grandchildren are completed and ready for the quilter and I put together a quick tumbler quilt

  • Yukon Fall

Well, up here in the North the leaves have gone and we've already had a couple of sprinklings of snow. Not crazy about that however it does send me back to the sewing room after playing hooky in the sunshine during the summer! I finally got wise and purchased a real stiletto - my poor index finger nail has taken too much of a beating! Besides, my

  • Yukon Summer wanes

Well, in typical Northern fashion, there is already colour in the trees high up on the mountains and has been for a couple of weeks. I hate to see the summer wane however time marches on and I have been thinking about sewing for Christmas for a while now. Temperatures are still in the 65 to 70 zone during the day but the nights are very cool and soon

  • Yukon summer continues

Well, this has been the busiest of busy summers up here in Yukon!!! There was the birth of our newest grandson, Clayton, two days before we left for Nova Scotia. The high school graduation of our eldest granddaughter while we were away, in the dress I made. Then we weren't home long and our middle daughter got married in Anchorage, Alaska, necessitating

  • Yukon Summer

It has been a very busy beginning of summer. I finished my granddaughter's graduation quilt. I made her grad dress, complete with special dyeing technique she HAD to have. I finished my first quilt made entirely with my GO cutter, a double Irish chain in greens and blues. I also took apart a quilt I had turned into a duvet cover at the request of

  • Re: Hi I'm new

I'm far away, up in northern Canada, but want to add my welcome. I'm not as regular at posting as some of the others, but am always happy to see someone new! I've looked at BOM online many times but have not yet ventured into that territory. Keep me posted on how it goes and you never know, I may join you! Warm smiles from the cold North

  • Re: What are you up to today!

I understand your venting, Althea and have done it many days myself. As I told the disability pension people, there are some days I don't even like myself so I can imagine what my DH thinks! I'm attempting my first Grandmother's Flower Garden as a travel project. We leave at the end of the month to travel halfway across the country as a

  • Fall has arrived!

Here in Yukon fall has arrived with a vengeance and there is snow on the mountains that surround us. When the weather turns cools, like everyone else, my thoughts turn to quilting. I've actually been busy throughout this year. I've managed to finish a gift of a friend's retirement - the DreamCatcher pattern from the Designer's Challenge

  • Re: it is Friday - but what are you up to today and this weekend!

It is a beautiful Friday up here up here in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. Another day of 90 degree weather! Picture me giggling because although we are next door to Alaska we get beautiful summers. We are the best kept secret in Canada - or I guess we were!! Today I am cutting out circles for my next project based on a F&P pattern called Circle of

I'm so happy to see all of the people here and equally happy to see fellow Canadians. Believe it or not, up here in northern Canada we have been the hot spot several days this week! Happy quilting everyone! Barb
