Jodie, I think we need to teach the youngsters -early - how to sew and then it will just seem natural. I have friends from Norway and they started in their first year of school learning to knit, sew, all that. And so did their children, so it wasn't lost for our next generation. These women still love to sew/quilt. We've made it seem like drudgery
