Another strip quilt, with a 40 piece strip roll. I just used black to bind it. I've made 4 of these quilts and have taken 2 of them to my local quilt store and rented their longarm quilting machine to practice my longarm quilting. It's really fun, plus you end up with some lap sized quilts for your sofa.

You can kind of see the accent inner border on the bottom right of the picture. I love those natural colors.

This lap sized quilt was made with the 'strip-quilt race' technique (you can find the video on you tube). It's made from a 40 piece roll of strips. This is the fastest technique I've ever seen for piecing a quilt. You can make the top in about 2 hours. Anyway, this quilt was commissioned, and the client wanted quotes embroidered on it

This link is very helpful, especially the seam embellishment ideas. Thanks. Dawn

Hello Everyone! My name is Dawn. I've been quilting for over 20 years. I belong to a quilt guild. I've been branching out into mixed media quilting. I love embellishing with beads, trims, embroidery, etc. I'm also learning how to use digital images in my quilts. It seems crazy quilting offers ways to do all of the techniques in one project

That embellishment is gorgeous! I really love the beadwork. I am interested in where you got the face. Is that something you made or purchased? Dawn

My first attempt at free motion flowers. Slow and steady is the key!
-
Easy quilt design. I used charm squares for the 'coins' and yardage for the borders and white fabric. The flowers and butterflies are machine embroidery applique. I stippled around the appliques and free motion quilted simple flowers in the coin columns with orange variegated cotton thread.

Always, always, ALWAYS label your quilt! This is a poem I found, about Mother. I put it on the label and free motion quilted it around the outer border.

It's hard to see the free motion quilting around the photo blocks. It's cursive writing of words that relate to family.
