  • batting right side/wrong side

Is there a right side or wrong side to batting? Which side, if so, should I layer the top onto? Thanks...

  • Wobbly thread spools

Whenever I have a spool of thread that wobbles on the post, I use straws to help tighten up the spool. You can use more than one, in graduated sizes, too. Really helps.

  • thread dating

I recently read that you shouldn't use hand quilting thread that is too old because it could break. So In order to record how old my threads are, I now put the date I buy them on the labels.

  • Re: Pellon Nature's Soft batting

I just came upon this post as I was looking to get some opinions on this batting. I bought it at JoAnn's awhile ago, queen size for $15, half-price. The lady at the register told me she had used it and loved it, for both hand and machine quilting. I want to use it to hand quilt, and have my quilt all sandwiched (spray basted) but now am worried

  • Re: Quilt of old neck ties

A Dresden Plate--how perfect for a necktie quilt! Taylor made! (heehee). Seriously, that is a wonderful idea. I recently saw one that someone did in a circle. Maybe that's the one you saw, it was huge. But I think it would be cool to do a 'regular' Dresden, or even Grandmothers Fan. Pat

  • Using spray adhesive

Today, while using spray adhesive to 'baste' my queen size quilt, I thought of what to use to smooth the layers all out---my wooden pastry roller! It covers a large area, and smooths evenly. Just don't do it so aggressively that it will push wrinkles in. I'm not sure what taste it will add to my pie crusts, though, lol. Pat

  • Re: Saving sewing steps for a HST border.

I THINK I follow you...but aren't the resulting HSTs smaller than you need? I wish I could see it. But it sounds like a fantastic idea, and next time I'm doing that I will try it. Thank you! Pat
