Hi. My name is Melody and live in Missouri but was born and raised for the most part in Kansas, Lawrence to be exact. I love football and the KC Chiefs. Being from Jayhawk Country, as night would follow day, I am a KU Jayhawk fan. I have two grown children and no grandchildren. I do have a grandpup named Diddles and two grandkitties named, Big Kitty and Little Kitty. LOL Hey, I would love grandchildren, but this is the best I can do so..... be happy.
My love for quilting started when I was a kid and a hand made quilt, made by my Grandmother, was what I slept under. I never thought about me doing it until after my youngest was born. My Mother and I took a quilting class taught by Barbara Brackman. I was at that point "bit by the bug" to learn more but there were children to raise and house to run so that was that.
28 years later, I had the time, so I began. A good friend of ours was and is a quilter and became my teacher. It didn't take long to develop my own preferences. I enjoy the historical value in the craft and would rather make a quilt that is functional rather that ornamental. To carry on the traditions of our Grandmother is a privilege that I freely embrace.
My first quilt was the Spool Block take from the Kansas City Star Collection I checked out of our Library. The second pattern The Maple Leaf, the third Checker Board, fourth Ohio Star. That has been within the last two years.
My present project is from one of Barbara Brackman's Cival War books using woven fabrics. I hope to keep quilting so that every bed in my home has a quilt on it.
