When I retired from working and moved to the Blue Ridge mountains, I was not a quilter. I did have a small amount of yo-yo's that I had been making since they used up scrap fabric and could be done by hand while watching tv, etc. We spent almost 6 months in a motel room waiting for our retirement home to be completed. I made more yo-yo's. They became a queen size quilt, set together in a flower garden pattern. I was hooked. Have made 38 quilts, 12 in process, and fabric for 9 more. I have just recently added paper piecing to my favorite techniques.
The yo-yo quilt had won numberous blue ribbons, and one best in show. A disclaimer here, not in the BIG shows, but in my local area. I have also won several ribbons for my other quilts. Is this bragging? I don't mean to brag, but to encourage others to enter shows, it is such a wonderful feeling when your work is recognized by others.
