This is a little larger than a crib quilt.  I made the pattern for the center panel because I couldn't find one I loved.  So, Mr. Snowman and his Cardinal friend came into being.  Snowman's body is three separate 'snowballs' made from heavy terrycloth fabric.  I sewed the 'snowballs' to a light muslin backing and turned it to create a smooth edge.  I used this same technique for the carrot nose and the Cardinal.  The 'snowballs' were machine blanket stitched in place, as were the rest of the applique embellishments except for the carrot nose.  I hand sewed it in place.  The eyes, nose and mouth are yo-yos I made out of black fabric and left sort of wonky to look like coal.  The branch arms are twisted tubes of brown fabric.  The panel background is soft, blue flannel and white cotton to look like a snow scene.  All of the assorted blue and white squares are cotton.  The backing is cuddly soft flannel.  I hope my grandson loves this!
