My son's 4th and 5th grade Teacher was fabulous!  Her reading program instilled a love of reading into all the boys in her class!

Each pair of students created a panel.  I copied the colored drawing onto fabric and added sashing.

The each student could only be in one block.  For example, if Suzie was class clown - she couldn't be best reader.  Each pair worked on his/her block when the Teacher was at meetings and a substitute was in the room.  I collected the papers and made black and white "yearbook" for each student.  We surprised the teacher with the quilt during the last week of school.  I bound the quilt with blue ribbon instead of binding to give it a framed look.  The quilt hangs in the teacher's room away from sunlight to avoid fading.
