My version of the Wildflowers and More Wildflowers by Smith Street Design machine embroidery won a 3rd place in the Machine Embroidery Category at the Arizona Quilters Guild Show in Mesa AZ in 2011. I quilted as I went, using free motions stitches as well as embroidery bushes that are very subtle in the sashing and in the borders. There are over 650,000 embroidery stitches throughout this quilt. The embroidery designs came in three different sizes and I used the large and the small ones. The small ones are in the borders and the small one scattered throughout the top. The fun story about the small ones scattered throughout the top came when I accidentally put a small un-repairable hole in one of the block border fabrics. I had to find a way to hide the hole and could not just put one small flower there or it would look weird. So I put 10 of them with 10 leaves! It was a very tedious task but one that actually added a lot to the design. I learned from this that sometimes our mistakes have a purpose!
