This quilt top was pieced by Joyce's Grandma using clothes that Joyce had out grown.  In 1984 we lived next door to Joyce while living in base housing and we have been life long friends ever since.  Joyce, my mom and myself started the task of hand quilting and did not get very far before Joyce had to move to another base.  November 2012 I receive a big box in the mail without any notification that it was coming, I opened the box and there was the quilt with a note......'We found this in the basement while cleaning out some junk boxes and was hoping you might want to finish this quilt'.  The quilt was stained and had an odor to it so I took out all the hand stitching and washed everything hoping that the top would stay in tack since she had 'hand pieced' every block.  It washed up well.....

I put new batting and backing on the quilt and machine stitched on my longarm...I need to put a label on it and then ship it back.  Quilting this for me was a time of reflection as to how much our friendship has endured over all this time and how much Joyce's family has been a fabric of our lives as they have graciously welcome us as part of their family.  I also reflected back to when we were all 3 hand stitching the quilt, laughing and talking and sharing.....what great memories!!

I decided to stitch hearts with in and out loops to remind me of the friendship between us through the years!
