Paging through a Judy Mathieson Mariner's compass quilt book, my daughter liked the idea of the off-center star and together we decided what the rest of it would look like. She chose the colors and we collected fabric for months. It was fun. I added the saw-tooth border when we decided the quilt needed to be just a bit bigger. Machine pieced, hand quilted. The star was done using a variation of paper piecing Judy Mathieson did in a video (it's aweome because you don't sew through the paper, so it's easier to remove the paper later). The star is also her design from one of her books. Looks great in my daughter's Chicago apartment!
