Gathered Together

This quilt is made up of 80 10.5" squares. To create the squares, 21" x 10.5" fabric pieces are gathered on the long sides and sewn down to 10.5" base squares for stability. The squares are pieced so that the gathers alternate, giving a woven look.

While easy to do, this quilt is deceptively time-consuming.

So cool, this is what I love about quilting, I can make a quilt with gathers that actually belong there!! :)

Ooooooh!  I love this one.  It uses batting in the middle, I presume and then a backing.  Stitch in the ditch for the quilting method?  What did you use for borders?

This is very nice.  Congrats on an excellent quilt!

Thanks for the great comments! Kath - I did not use batting as the gathered squares are quite bulky by themselves. I backed the quilt with fleece and stitched in the ditch to quilt. The binding is various strips of the fabrics used in the quilt. The bride loved it, so I think this was a great wedding gift as well.
