This quilt was inspired after attending the 1996 Olympic Games Quilts exhibit. Having never tried making a water color quilt, I bought a book to learn the basics. It took me about 4-1/2 years to make starting from creating the pencil sketch design, assembling over 5,000 2" squares, and hand quilting the layers. The technique required so many squares to choose from that I have since created 2 twin bed quilts from the leftovers. I also created an additional king sized spread, "Leftovers", but had to supplement it with new fabrics. As an added note: I purchased a fish patterned fabric and only learned after the quilt was finished and on my bed that the "skeletons" of the fish glowed in the dark! It has been a running joke about the quilt ever since.
