Never give me a batch of scraps and think I'm never going to use them...I find ways of putting them to some sort of use!  Just need borders to finish this one.  The star blocks finish at 8 x 8.  I just used neutral sashings and scrappy cornerstones to keep the background from swallowing the stars.

I got a call from the quilt shop owner who has a brand new Innova with all the computerized bells and whistles.  I had given her a queen sized quilt top that had 48 blocks that contained 70+ pieces to each block.  It was one of a kind, as there were several pieces of the quilt that were scraps that had been saved over a few years now and can never be replaced.  The call was concerning the fact that she ruined my quilt.  Somehow, the machine ate all the way from the quilt top through the batting and ripped up the backing all but 24 inches of the 101 length of the quilt.  The sashing is also ripped beyond repair.  You know she has no insurance for this kind of thing, so how do you put a value on what can never be replicated?

Oh Carlene, how sad.  Was this the one she ruined?

It is so beautiful and obviously took a long time.  I don't think I have ever seen a scrappy quilt I like as much as this one.

I have to agree with Patti; i love the block and setting you used.  It's giving me ideas for a scrappy one of my own.  I'm so glad you were able to salvage what you could, but such a disappointment...

The good news is, the quilt wasn't damaged as much as the longarmer told me over the phone.  I managed to fix the sashing that was affected and I'm just going to lable over the back rip.  This most definitely is not the news you want to start the weekend with.  She did the quilting for free and gave me about $40 worth of compensatory patterns and templates from her store.  And, I think she learned that you can't just set it and forget it, as they say on tv.
