This quilt was made for my husband for our 21st anniversary. He told me specifically that he wanted to be next for a quilt and he wanted it made of Real Tree. If you don't know what Real Tree is, it is a licensed hunting camoflage fabric. When he told me that was what he wanted I remembered a quilt pattern I flagged in an old magazine. The pattern is called "Meadow Brook" from the May/June Fons & Porter Love of Quilting magazine and I new it would be perfect for him and his requested fabric. I used Real Tree for half of the maple leaf blocks and the other half is a hand painted batik with a faint grassy image on it. The backing is also Real Tree. I found it very challenging to find something to go with the camo. I quilted it on a long arm at my local quilt store with an edge to edge across the maple leaves; a different pattern on the borders; and, yet a different one in the corner blocks. I really enjoyed making this quilt and I will save the pattern for a possible future quilt. I kid him and say now he's camoflaged into his recliner and I can't give him jobs to do.
