Hearts Afloat Quilt made for my sister Joy.

Last winter I stopped by my sister's home in CO to visit on our way home from Arizona to Minnesota.  She gave me the January/February 2012 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine, telling me she really liked the "Hearts Afloat" quilt found on page 26.  It was a very strong hint that she wanted me to make it for her.  I took pictures of the colors in her living room.  When I got home, I started searching for material to make the quilt for her.  She just had a knee replacement and I went to visit and help her during her recovery.  I presented her with the quilt and she was sooo happy and loved the quilt.  I didn't quite have the binding finished when I arrived but finished it while I was there.  I forgot to bring the label with me so I have to send it to her to sew on.  Always something! 

I've included pictures of the back of the quilt and a close up of the quilting.  I quilted the center and border as suggested but changed the quilting in between the two.  It was the first time I had done a scalloped binding.

This is gorgeous!  What a nice sister you are.  Will you adopt me?  You quilted that yourself on your sewing machine, didn't you?

Thanks Nancy.  Adopt you?  Of course!  We are joined in spirit but that doesn't mean I'm going to make you a quilt!  I think that's the last one by request, hint, or pressure.  Too much stress!.

Yes, I did quilt it on my Janome Horizon.

Very nice.  I love the quilting details.  I think I have seen this quilt on paper, but never actually seen one done up.  I like it.  And I am certain your sister cherishes it.

This is a beautiful quilt ,I love the quilting.so pretty .You really did an amazing job on this quilt. I may have to go look this one up for myself.

This is so pretty! Did you use HST? I'm planning on making an Ocean Waves quilt and have yet to convince myself that I can make it using 2.5" strips, lol!

Glad your Sister appreciates it. I spent over £250 on fabric and 100 hours stitching a quilt top for my Sister's 40th birthday but she didn't like it, so I brought it home and it's sat in my cupboard for 9 years!

What a beautiful professional quilt. As always with me I decided I wanted to make my sister a quilt( at that time I didn't really know too much about quilting) but i started and made her a picture quilt sort of a family history one with grandparents and great grandparents picture. This was before the computer pictures became popular so I used a transfer medium from colored copies of the pictures. It is by far not perfect---but what a feeling doing this for my sister that means so much to me.
