An elderly lady made this quilt using the old traditional style. She used an old sheet, started in the middle adding scraps, pieces of trims, and also some fussy cuts. I machine quilted it with a varigated thread, Signature Tiedye color. It really turned out pretty.

I like how colorful it looks!  My Aunt used to like making this type of quilt.  That was my introductory view of a quilt.  Back then as a teenager, it did not spark my interest in quilting.  Now I wish I'd seen how she made hers.  She gifted two of these to my sisters.  Perhaps one day I will see one of these up close.  Now that I am more knowledgeable in quilting, I may be able to decipher her method.

Barb - It sounds like you're saying she used the sheet as a muslin and sewed the fabrics to the sheet - kind of like how the selvedge quilts are made.  Is that correct?  If so that sounds MUCH easier than how I would have gone about piecing that top.  :)

Carolyn, sorry I dont know what a selvedge quilt is. She started in the center of a sheet and just covered it all over with scraps, there is embroidery work on it too. I think it would be hard to handle such a large piece like the sheet. Hard to handle on the sewing machine. I have just used 12 or 14 inch blocks of muslin like a foundation, easier to handle, also have used decrotive stitches on my sewing machine instead of hand embroidery work.
