Here is how I use post-it notes to make straight consistent cuts on my fabric. Peel off  three post-it notes and place on the line of the ruler. It makes a small ridge that butt ups against the edge of the fabric. The post-it notes are on the UNDERSIDE of the ruler, up against the fabric.
