Rainbow Storm at Sea

I have wanted to make a storm at sea quilt for quite sometime.  And my friend wanted a rainbow themed quilt.  This pattern is the perfect blend. Happily I found some templates that made the cutting and sewing go smoothly.  I now have it on the quilting frame and will complete it  for her birthday in July.  This is about 60" square.

I love this quilt a lot.  I made a Log Cabin Rainbow and I just love the look.

Stunningly beautiful. Makes you stop in your tracks and go WOW. The two different colors on the inner border and the glorious outer border fabric frame it to perfection. As a quilter I appreciate the difficulty of getting all those points to match. I love what you have done with the color layout to keep your eye moving around the quilt. Your attention to detail really shows. Two thumbs way way up.

FYI -- I used a pattern from the American Quilter magazine, March 2012.  I used Marti Mitchell's Storm at Sea templates for ease of cutting and a great fit of the pieces.  I made some changes in colors (doesn't every quilter?) I am quilting it all over on a Handiquilter 16 with a groovy board of swirls.

The outer border with the mulit-colored circles is a batik. I used the rest of the batik and a large royal blue scrap for a pieced back.   The rest of the colors are cotton blenders that I found in a 22-fabric rainbow set (half yards) at a quilt show a couple of years ago.
