Art quilt - thread painting, approx. 19" square, quilted wall hanging depicting gray hairstreak butterfly. I used a photo of a Gray Hairstreak butterfly that I took from my flower garden. I used lutradur to make the butterfly (because I couldn't find a fabric with the colors I liked, and I liked the stiffness of lutradur for this purpose). I painted it overall with gray fabric paints for the main color as well as highlights, and also used pastels and colored pencils for some of the details. I stitched most of the details. I used fabric painted with fabric paints for some of the flower petals. In the narrow border at the top, I embroidered "Gray Hairstreak - Wingspan 1-1 1/4", then embroidered butterfly quotes all around. I used a swirly pattern with purple variagated thread on the background, and a kind of elongated stipple quilting for the border.
