This quilt, titled "Alphabetimals at the Zoo" was made for my soon-to-be born latest grandson. I used pictures from the website Alphabetimals.com with kind permission from the artist, Patrick O'Toole. Each letter has many little pieces drawn in reverse on fusible web, cut, fused and satin stitched appliqued. The pupils of the eyes are 1/4 inch hand-punched from black fabric with evenly spaced tiny white dots, also satin stitched. The names of the animals were embroidered by the Spirit Shoppe of Kalamazoo and randomly added around the border to provide fun and learning by matching to the letters.
I forwarded a picture of the quilt to Mr. O'Toole, who asked to post it on his facebook page. A local quilt shop featured it in their newsletter. I am thrilled with how it turned out and can't wait for the little one to use it.
