This quilt, titled "Alphabetimals at the Zoo" was made for my soon-to-be born latest grandson. I used pictures from the website Alphabetimals.com with kind permission from the artist, Patrick O'Toole. Each letter has many little pieces drawn in reverse on fusible web, cut, fused and satin stitched appliqued. The pupils of the eyes are 1/4 inch hand-punched from black fabric with evenly spaced tiny white dots, also satin stitched. The names of the animals were embroidered by the Spirit Shoppe of Kalamazoo and randomly added around the border to provide fun and learning by matching to the letters.

I forwarded a picture of the quilt to Mr. O'Toole, who asked to post it on his facebook page. A local quilt shop featured it in their newsletter. I am thrilled with how it turned out and can't wait for the little one to use it.

Linda,

What a beautiful quilt and how talented you are! What high praise that Patrick O'Toole wants to display it on his facebook page and also your LQS wants to feature it. I'm sure your new grandson will love it .  You did a great job.

What an amazing quilt!  I know this had to be a lot of work, and the final product is really exquisite!  How lucky the child who will get it.

this is a wonderful use of fabric creativity, I can easily see that the finished quilt has a lot of interest to keep that baby boy happy for many many years. The collaboration of so many people really brought your ideas to fulfillment. Congratulations to all who worked out the project. And CONGRATULATIONS on the postings in the publications.

Mifghty nifty!  Not only are the animal/alphabet blocks neat, but I also like the way the names of the animals are embroidered around the border.  Very nice quilt!

Alphabet quilts and alphabet books are favorites of mine.
