This is the first quilt I made and I made it for my daughter.
This was the quilt I started with, I made up the design from simple squares. I had lost my job through illness and had swollen joints everywhere and needed something to occupy myself with because I had to sit for months. My grandmother told me she started quilting when her fingers started to swell with arthritis; she told me she felt it stopped her fingers from feeling stiff all the time. I sewed it all by hand, and cut the squares from a table cloth, a very large tabard and trouser suit which had an embroidered silver beaded design on, a bed sheet, a set of curtains and a few metres of thin denim-type cotton, which I used as a whole piece for the back.
I'm sorry about your illness but your quilt is great. Hope you're feeling better.
Kate - you made your first quilt like our "foreMothers" did -- from what they had around the house. Very nice.
What a beautiful quilt. Pretty colors and beautiful quilting. Great job! I do hope you are feeling better. Marlene
