When I saw this quilt in the spring 2011 issue of Quilting & Embroidery, I knew it would be a perfect wedding gift for my forever friend Linda and her husband Bernie. I have known Linda all my life. I don't ever remember not knowing her. I have pictures of us together when we were 3 or 4 years old and we're both 64 now. We grew up in SW Washington with the beach literally in our backyards. Linda was widowed in 2004 or 2005. Several years later she met Bernie and they married October 10, 2010 (yes, 10-10-10!).
I used Batiks in shades of blue and brown. The embroidered shells mirror the pattern in the magazine. I added Linda's and Bernie's names and marriage date to the upper left sky area of the wall hanging. The pattern in the magazine did not have a border but I included a narrow inner border and a seashell print outer border.
The wall hanging has been done for several months. The beading is what delayed final completion. I had never done any beading and will admit to being a bit intimidated. I kept putting off the beading and putting it off and putting it off... Finally tackled beading a few days ago and found it surprisingly easy although tedious and time-consuming. Oh well, the wall hanging i's done and on the way to Linda and Bernie in Arizona - only 13 months since they got married and friends understand!
