I made this for my friend's son Henry. Henry was born with the same heart defect as I was. The name of the pattern is Mended Hearts by Farm Girls. It has raw edge appliqué hearts layered on the squares, then cut in half and sewn together with another. It is done in red and blue shirting plaids. I choose red and blue to signify the colors of Congenital Heart Defect Awareness. I did a zig zag stick down the center of each heart because Henry and I have stitches in our hearts.

Beautiful  sentiment! I had heard of this pattern. I think I just might have to add it to the growing list of must do's. Some of my charity quilts do go to the neonatal units where the babies have heart conditions like this.

What a great quilt -- and story to go with it.
