This is my version of Quilters Newsletters 2011 Mystery Quilt , Garden Delight, designed by Nancy Mahoney. The original planned size was 74 X74, so I planned immediately, that when the mystery was revealed, I would find a way to enlarge it to a queen sized rectangular bed quilt. So I drafted and added the outer borders to enlarge it. Mine turned out 84" X 103" - not quite as wide as I would have liked. Ther orginal was made with "feed sack" or vintage looking fabrics. I opted for jewel tones. I am so pleased with the results I plan to use it on my own bed after the next local quilt show - hoping for a ribbon, though my quilts are never perfect. I quilted it myself on my Bernina. I kept track of my time-92 1/2 hours from Nov 2010 till Nov 2011 and about $150 in fabrics, batting and thread. I've gotten into backing "piecedbacks" using the leftovers from the front, but I will want to make coordinated runners and curtain valance and decided this quilt deserved a beautiful back, so I splurged ona Phillip Jacobs large scale floral that I love. Spent more for the backing than the front.
