I just finished this little table topper for my Mom's Christmas gift. Her kitchen is in fall colors. I made the center squares using four 5" paper piecing strip squares per square which created roughly an 8" square. Then I sashed and bordered four 8" squares with 1-1/2" black. Finally I added a 2" border. It is hand quilted with the design drawn free hand. The binding is pieced from scrap strips.

For directions, see above. I kinda took the instructions for making coasters and instead of actually making the coasters, just took the top piece and put 4 pieces together to form a bigger square. Does that make sense? Then I sashed 4 of the bigger squares together...see photo. Added the inner border. Then added a 2" outer border. I just really did my own thing which I do frequently. Even when I do have a pattern, my motto is "Patterns are only a suggestion." Hopefully, I haven't confused you. If I have let me know and I'll write up something for you with diagrams. Oh, you can find the coaster directions in my.sewingroom blog. It's strip piecing on paper and is extremely easy.

Sheri, yes it would look nice in holiday colors. Let me know if you make one. I'm running out of time.
