A special elderly lady showed me how to make this paper pieced string quilt. I have alot more to go!!!!! I think I purchased the fabric in 2006 from "The Heart of Dixie" quilt shop in Athens, Alabama. I Started piecing it in 2011.
Love, love, love it!
Linda, this is a very easy quilt to piece. Thanks for "loving" it.
This is great. So wonderful when older quilters will share their years of experience with those of us that are anxious to learn. I would like to try this. My kite quilt is the only one that I have paper pieced.
I "heart" string quilts! I have several books and two huge tubs of strips... if I live long enough I plan to make all of them!
very pretty quilt.Barbara
I have been giving my strings away, not knowing what to do with them. Not anymore, after seeing your quilt. now, I just have to try to understand how to do this.
Beautiful quilt, love the string quilt, have never tried one myself. Looks like something I may have to find a pattern for and try.
I helped my Mother make a string quilt when I was in the 3rd grade. It gave me something to do while I was recovering from having me tonsils out and unable to go to school.
We used the foundation method. An old sheet was torn into squares and we sewed strips and strings across them. ( I seem to remember the sheet was gray. Probably faded from some other color or just really old!) Our Quilt was not as pretty as yours though!
I do not know if I am allowed to post the pattern I used. It was not in a book or anything that I know of. I would try to share it if I could describe it. What ya all think??
