I designed and made this bowling themed quilt for my 91-year-old father, who bowls on a league. Bowling is his passion at this stage of his life and I wanted to give him something that celebrates that enthusiasm. I raw-edge appliqued the bowling balls and pins on the quilt. I painted the black "finger holes" in the bowling balls with Shiva paintsticks, and then stitched them over with black thread. I thread painted the red stripes on the pins with red rayon thread. I found the bowling-themed fabric on line. My father and mother live alone, and he bowls every Monday night on a
league. He doesn't drive anymore; he gave that up last Fall, but my
sister and brother live close by, so they take them places. I live many
states away, but I visit when I can.
