A friend requested a red and purple bargello quilt for a burial blanket. Here is what happened! WOW
Wow is right! It's beautiful. I'm always surprised with some of the color combinations that come out look so good, makes me want to do one. Guess I'll add this to my list of "want to do's".
Beautiful bargello. Love those colors. I have never heard of a burial blanket. Can you explain????
Beautiful work!!! It must have taken a lot of patiens & a lot of time especially to weave it like that. Where can I find this pattern?
believe that is sewn not woven-and what is a burial blanket? Surely not to go in the ground!!
Amazing.. beautiful!!
Wow. Love the colors. Lorig, Derek Lockwood does alot of these quilts check out his patterns. I have a few. There are also some on Keepsake Quilting's website under patterns.
It is a beautiful quilt. I don't understand what a buriea blanket is? Does it cover a body and is buried with them?
Absolutely beautiful, but I don't know what a burial blanket is either.
The blanket is absolutely beautiful! Whomever the blanket was made is well blessed. Prayers & spiritual blessing for the one(s) who made the blanket, to the family who is gifted the blanket and also for the one it is for.
A burial blanket is used in many cultures, specially in the Native American culture, plus the color purple is the burial color instead of black in many Native American cultures. When a burial blanket is used the person being laid to rest wrapped inside the blanket. There was a time in history and in some places even today there is a type of burial blanket that the person who is dying or who just passed is "sewed" into their burial blanket. Google Native American burials customs.

Beautiful. My MIL was buried with her quilt that I made her for her 80th birthday covering her. My SIL asked if it was okay to do that because she loved it so much.
Beautiful quilt!! Great concept with the burial blanket. I've heard of using a quilt in place of a flower spray on a coffin, but not for actual burial.
So much care for such a sorrowful time. You are a great friend!
Hi Patricia,
We posted links to this and your swirly bargello on the QCA Facebook page. They're both getting some comments there, too. :) QCA Peg

I am making one for my Aunt...funny I picked Bargello but it has turned into a Trip around the World meets Charms kinda thing...
O Yes Burial Blanket is just that, a quilt that will be buried with them, it's a tradition in some families but not mentioned much.
Very beautiful, Patricia
Thanks for the explanation Linda.
