I had gotten so sick of bed quilts that just barely cover my king size mattress, not to mention the box springs, that I decided to make my own. I determined what block size I wanted and from that how many squares I would need. Then I got out graph paper and colored pencils and created the pattern so I could figure out how much fabric I would need of each color. It was quite the endeavor and I admit it is tied, not quilted. But it served its purpose well and now lives on as our family picnic blanket.
