I wanted to try a lone star pattern without commiting to a bed size quilt. I like the technique and will one day make one for the bed.

VERY pretty! I agree with you, making a bed sized one is intimidating, gonna have to buck up the nerve to try one myself.
For all of you feeling intimidated by Lone Star's as I once was, try Jan Krentz's techniques highlighted in her book Lone Star Quilts and Beyond. After reading her book and trying a test piece, I felt very confident and made my first Lone Star. It went so well the quilt was juried into a state show and won Best of Show at our county fair. Not too bad!
Just jump in and DO IT!
