This is a little 9 x 12 art quilt (original design) that I made and donated to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.  This was my first ever art quilt and it was selected along with 53 or 54 others to go on tour with the AAQI Heartbreak to Hope exhibit  (you can check it out at http://www.alzquilts.org).  AND it appeared in the August 2011 issue of BG&G American Patchwork and Quilting -- that's in the previous page.  I embellished the piece with some swirly embroidery and little bits of wool felt.

I've dedicated this quilt to the caretakers of people afflicted with Alzheimer's.  My mother had Alzheimer's and I witnessed how devoted so many of the caretakers are.

Thank you for your gift to this amazing organization.  Beautiful design and dedication.  Many of the family caretakers suffer in silence on this journey.  You are so right about the devotion of many of the caregivers.  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the comments.  The little quilts for AAQI are my way to help out the cause.  My sister, daughter, niece and friends also walk in the Walk for a Cure in September.  Finding a cure for Alzheimer's has become my pet project.

Caregiving for Alzheimer's patients really is a matter of "catching the pieces" as they fall.  My Dad, my sister and my daughter were all wonderful.  Mom lived about 4 hours from us so I couldn't be there for her as much as i would have liked to be.
