My church has a ministry called "Prayers & Squares". Quilts are made for someone in need of comfort, and ties are put in. When the quilt is selected, people say prayers for the recipient so that when they received the quilt, every tie represents a prayer said just for them. I do at least minimal machine quilting to make sure the quilts stay together in the wash.
Kristin, a teen from our church, was a car accident where she fractured a vertebre in her neck but did not injure her spinal cord. She spent several weeks in bed, then a long time in a brace to keep her bones from injuring the spinal cord while they healed. This quilt was made in her favorite colors
